Community Supported Agriculture
(CSA)
What is a CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture is a system that connects the producer and consumers within the food system. More closely by allowing the consumer to subscribe to the harvest of a certain farm or group of farms.
We are are so pleased to continue partnering with our friends at Robin Ridge Farms and Schwartz Meat Company to bring you a meat and vegetable CSA basket produced locally in Bourbon & Fleming Counties. Each week beginning in May, you and your family will receive a vegetable basket along with your selected add-ons. In addition, depending on that week’s bounty we will supply you with a recipe on how to use your basket. As a member you will also have access to our CSA members only Facebook group for sharing recipes and tips.

Reasons to Join
1. Fresh, Local Produce
One of the biggest benefits is getting access to fresh, seasonal produce that’s grown locally. You’re getting items that are harvested at peak ripeness, which often means better flavor and nutrition.
2. Supporting Local Farmers
By joining a CSA, you’re directly supporting small, local farmers and their families. This helps strengthen the local economy and encourages sustainable farming practices.
3. Diverse, Seasonal Variety
CSAs give you the opportunity to try a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, many of which might not be available at your local grocery store. You’ll experience produce that’s in season, and often get a few surprises that challenge you to try new recipes or cooking techniques.
4. Customized Deliveries
Our CSA allows you to customize your delivery to fit your needs, whether that’s adding extra items or swapping out something you’re not a fan of. This flexibility can make it easier to get what you want without worrying about food waste.
5. Less Waste
Since CSAs often offer more exact portions, it can reduce food waste. You’re receiving exactly what you need each week, and anything that doesn’t get eaten can be easily incorporated into the next meal, shared, or donated.
6. Community Connection
Many CSAs build a strong community among their members, whether through online groups, local events, or volunteer opportunities. It’s a great way to meet like-minded people who share your interest in fresh food and sustainable practices.
7. Healthier Eating
With regular deliveries of fresh, nutrient-dense produce, you’re more likely to eat healthier. Plus, because you’re getting a variety of fruits and veggies you might not normally buy, you’re likely to incorporate new healthy options into your meals.
8. Educational Opportunities
Many CSA farms offer educational materials, workshops, or online resources about cooking, food preservation (like canning), and sustainable farming practices. You get to learn about where your food comes from and how to make the most of it.
9. Environmental Impact
By supporting a CSA, you're often reducing your carbon footprint. Local produce doesn’t have to travel as far as imported produce, reducing the environmental cost of transportation.
10. A Fun, Unique Experience
There’s something fun and exciting about getting a box of fresh produce each week. You get to experiment with new foods and create meals based on what’s available, which can be a rewarding challenge.
11. Cost-Effective (Long-Term)
Though the upfront cost can be a bit higher, many people find that a CSA is cost-effective in the long run. You’re buying directly from the farm, which often reduces the markup you'd pay at a grocery store. Plus, you’re getting higher-quality produce for the price.
We were able to recognize three of our CSA families this past summer that have been with us since our very first season!
“My family loves Hatmaker Homestead eggs! Farm fresh eggs have so much more flavor and we appreciate knowing they are fresh and produced locally! Their customer service is top notch and they make sure to restock their eggs constantly so that we never have to wait for the next carton.”
